We were intrigued to note that the squirrel was caring a pine cone. Below is a picture
of the neighbor’s tree where it probably came from, and a pine cone like the one that
was buried.
13 July 2021, Tuesday - Can you guess what the squirrel is carrying in its mouth and
burying in our garden?
Enjoy the video and hope you guessed correctly.

30 July 2021, Friday - Early yesterday morning we had a brief visit from mom raccoon
and her three kits. Did you know that the word “raccoon” was adopted into English from
the Native American Powhatan term meaning “animal that scratches with its hands?”
Thank you Wikipedia.
Enjoy!

08 August 2021, Sunday - Just before daybreak this morning, in the drizzle, one of our
not-so-frequent visitors showed up - an opossum. One could say that it has a face only a
mother could love; but then again, it’s not a rat!
Hope that your day is wonderful!

30 August 2021, Monday - No summer’s early morning would be complete without a doe
and her yearling strolling together through a flower garden - and sampling a bit of it
too. Please see the video below.
Nature note: We’ve seen geese flying in low altitude V’s as they travel from one pond
to another around our neighborhood. And we noticed that there is usually one goose
flying near the V making a lot of noise, almost as if it were an instructor goose teaching
the young ones the proper technique of formation flying.
Hope you enjoy the day.

20 September 2021, Monday - After spending a short summer raising young in west
central Canada and the northwestern United States, American white pelicans flock
together and meander south for the winter. And we mean meander, that they wander
casually without much urgency.
Below is a short video (without sound) of a pelican flock coming over a park near our
home in Minnesota last week one sunny afternoon. They seem to spend a great deal of
their migration at relatively low altitude, just kind of circling around, and moving, now
and again, in a southerly direction. It must be great to be a pelican
